Paul Morrissey

Founder & Executive Director

Paul Morrissey leads the founding team at Compass Rose. His dedication to his mission is evident in his career trajectory, from teacher, to leader, to school founder.

Paul most recently completed a Fellowship with Building Excellent Schools, a national non-profit dedicated to supporting leaders as they open great schools in areas of high need across the country. Prior to his Fellowship, Paul worked in a turnaround school district in Lawrence, MA. Paul has also worked with a charter school network, teaching and then leading a school in Phoenix, working on the network’s New School Development team to found new schools, and then founding and leading a new middle school in Washington, DC.

Paul received a B.A. in English from the University of Connecticut and an M.Phil. in Popular Literature from Trinity College Dublin (IE).

Brent Park, Manager of Financial Operations, United Allergy Services, LLC, manages a $7 million inventory, including procurement, contract negotiation, and tracking throughout over 500 clinics. Mr. Park is also responsible for contract pricing for all physician partner accounts as well as tracking industry trends in health insurance and their impacts on reimbursement for allergy testing and treatment. As a former classroom educator and higher education operational effectiveness consultant, Brent brings both financial and operational acumen and an understanding of what it takes to be a great classroom teacher. This combination of skillsets allows him to innovatively advise the operational leaders of Compass Rose.


Arturo Herrera, Jr., Senior Planner, VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority, carries out operational planning, service analysis, and the development of the Five-Year Plan on behalf of the transit authority. His professional work experience is concentrated in multimodal transportation planning and capital project development & management. He has led and supported various transit feasibility studies, VIA’s 5-Year Service Plan, and a transit urban design study. However, most of his tenure was spent managing and implementing VIA’s largest completed capital program, and San Antonio’s first Bus Rapid Transit line – VIA Primo. As program manager, he was responsible for the management of the environmental study, design, real estate acquisition, and construction of 15 stations, two new Transit Centers, and supporting facilities/amenities. Mr. Herrera brings expertise in facility planning, strategic planning, and transportation planning to the Board.


Don Barfield is an Associate Director of Westat, and prior to this role was the President and Founding Partner at Edvance Research. He has more than 35 years of executive leadership in public, non-profit, and for-profit educational organizations, and his guidance has resulted in the successful delivery of major research and development initiatives locally and nationally. He has given expert testimony to Boards of Education at the state and local levels, Congressional testimony, participated on state assessment and accountability technical advisory panels, the U.S. Department of Education Blue Ribbon schools panel, a National Research Council committee, and numerous Boards of Directors (San Fransisco Education Fund, BSCS Publishing, Bay Area Planned Parenthood). Mr. Barfield has worked in the area of school desegregation for over 30 years and has participated as an expert to the Federal District Court in a number of cases nationally. He has also produced and managed many program evaluations at Barfield Associates (Principal), WestEd (Deputy Director) and San Francisco Unified School District (Assistant Superintendent). Mr. Barfield served as Vice President of Educational Products for Harcourt Assessment, Inc., with responsibility for building new educational assessment products, including content development, research, psychometrics, and editorial, related to the company’s broad range of education assessments, such as achievement (summative and formative), ability, and diagnostic and language proficiency tests.


Dr. Hector Caraballo is the President of Deltroy, Inc., a medical company providing high-quality emergency physician staff services to hospitals and medical facilities in San Antonio and throughout Texas. Aside from his work at Deltroy, Dr. Caraballo is also Clinical Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at University of Texas San Antonio School of Medicine. Dr. Caraballo is experienced in medical education and acts as teaching faculty for both residents and medical students. He also has a history of providing mentorship to numerous medical students in global health projects from to Guatemala and Ecuador. Dr. Caraballo is a first-generation college graduate and knows firsthand the importance of a sound public school education as an instrument of social upward mobility.


Rampriya (Priya) Logan currently serves as an Account Director at L&T Infotech, an engineering IT firm, managing the top and bottom line growth of her energy industry portfolio. She has 13+ years of progressive IT management experience, a deep background in technology, leadership and development, and strategic client management. She has managed projects and products for clients in healthcare, financial services, education, and the energy industry. Throughout her career, Ms. Logan has designed IT strategy for both large organizations and specific business segments, providing strategic consultation in defining solutions and identifying technologies to enable those solutions. She has also co-founded and successfully run an IT consulting firm. Priya brings deep technology, project management, entrepreneurial thinking, strategic planning experience, community connections, and innovative ideas to the Board.

Anashay Wright

Anashay Wright, Partner at TNTP, is an award-winning educator, mother to two amazing children (12 and 4 years old) and wife to one amazing husband. As a Partner, she provides system-level advisement and support in the areas of Academics, Instruction and Talent Management for some of the nation’s largest school districts, including SAISD. Prior to moving to San Antonio three years ago, she worked closely with the Georgia Department of Education, over ten Georgia public school districts and charter schools to train, develop, and certify teachers in over 20 cities. Anashay began her career as a certified PK-8th-grade classroom teacher and district level Training and Development leader within Gwinnett (two time Broad recipient) and Walton Counties in Georgia. The impact of Mrs. Wright’s work in Education Reform and Program Management & Development has been far-reaching, impacting over 20,000 students in the Metro-Atlanta area. Anashay is committed to improving the quality of education and increasing life outcomes for students and families in San Antonio and beyond. She believes we are all connected by “one voice;” which is the voice of the children and communities we serve.
